100 Years Of Wisdom

Updated: Sep 30, 2024

This week is special in my family because we get to celebrate my grandma, Annette Anderson’s 100th birthday on October 3!!!

According to Pew Research, centenarians currently make up 0.03% of the overall U.S. population. That number is expected to grow to 0.1% by 2054, which is a huge increase but still really small!

I feel so fortunate to have grown up two houses away from her and my grandpa and even though we live 300 miles apart now, we still talk a few times a week and she’s had a chance to watch our family grow and be a part of so many of our life’s cherished moments.

I called her this morning to wish her a happy birthday week. She was making her bed and getting ready for the big week ahead including a few celebrations with a BIG party on Saturday.

When I asked her for wisdom that I could share with others on this blog who want to learn from a centenarian, she downplayed her wisdom but shared that the love and care from her family and friends near and far is the biggest key to longevity for her.

This group includes my parents who still live two houses away as well as those in the community like her church, those who help her out on a regular basis in town, as well as those that reach out electronically on Facebook and with calls and letters.

According to Blue Zones, the 9 keys to longevity can be found in these four categories: Right Outlook, Eat Wisely, Connect, and Move.

Without even knowing it, she’s living the Blue Zones way, which says a lot!

Thank you grandma for sharing your wisdom and I look forward to celebrating you all week long and beyond!

Learn In The Flow Of Life
