Lessons from My Dad at 75

Last week, my dad, Gary Grom, turned 75 and I’ve been reflecting on the lessons he’s passed down that continue to shape me.

My dad has always believed that life is best lived by doing. Whether it was walking me through my first tax return, showing me what a strong work ethic looks like both at home and on the job, or simply reminding me to “follow the doctor’s orders,” he’s taught through example. His consistency and discipline have kept him healthy and active, still moving with purpose every day.

He’s also shown me the importance of helping others through his willingness to lend a hand to family and friends and his genuine interest in meeting new people and making connections with just about anyone! He has a gift for making everyone feel like they matter.

And maybe his biggest lesson comes from perspective. Both of his parents, Marvin and Joyce, passed away young. That experience instilled in him a deep appreciation for life, one that’s reflected in how he celebrates everything and everyone, how he shows gratitude openly, and how he finds joy in everyday moments.

So here’s to my dad at 75, a man who keeps teaching by example, keeps connecting by caring, and keeps reminding us all to live fully and give freely.

If you know my dad, I’d love to hear, what’s something you’ve learned from him?

Or, more broadly, what’s one lesson your dad taught you that’s stayed with you?

Happy 75th, Dad. And thank you for all the lessons along the way.
