Do the Grom’s take the summer off from learning?

The short answer is…..NO!
Instead in a family that values learning in the flow of life, we amplify the importance of learning by engaging in new and exciting experiences to maximize our learning.
Heather and Jack just finished a week participating at Starbase Minnesota. Starbase has a mission of “educating and inspiring Minnesota youth in science, technology, education and math (STEM).” Even though Jack won’t admit it, Heather saw him light up 💡 when he was engaged in hands on experiments. Heather is a scientist at heart (and her education and experience) and this gave her an opportunity to give back and participate with Jack as he explores.
In addition , Hannah and Heather have been preparing for weeks to participate in the Mudgirl: the obstacle race dedicated to women. They prepared by running on the treadmill and outside, with the goal of doing their best. While the event wasn’t officially timed, they finished ahead of everyone in their heat of about 200 women and girls and when I was told by other spectators it was taking everyone about 2 hours, if only took them 57 minutes! 👏
Finally, (well not actually, but there’s only so much room in this blog post), Hannah and I had a chance to be up close to PGA Tour Professionals at the 3M Open last week. Hannah was a standard bearer, holding up the score sign for our assigned groups and I walked along to help. We were paired with Zach Johnson, Emiliano Grillo, and Luke List on Friday and Zac Blair and Tom Kim on Sunday. None of our players won, but it was awesome to see 🏌🏼♂️ players at this level hit bomb drives, throw darts 🎯 at the greens and sink some long putts like Tom Kim’s eagle on the front nine on Sunday.
Starbase reminded us that when kids are given tools, time, and encouragement, they ignite. And when adults join in, they rediscover wonder too.
Mudgirl taught us that preparation + perseverance = confidence (and some serious mud).
The 3M Open highlighted that excellence looks effortless, but it’s built on years of practice, patience, and poise.
Learning doesn’t only happen when school is in session or in a formal training program, a science lab, in the mud or on a golf course offer great environments to learn especially together with family and friends.
