Last weekend I was playing around with YouTube videos trying to see if I could create something that went “viral.”
With my weekly learning blog, book promotion, and podcast guest appearances, I’ve had solid responses and many individuals reach out to share that they found value in my insights and messages, but nothing that’s gone “viral” like “Charlie bit my finger.”
Based upon what’s most popular in my feed on Facebook, Instagram, and even LinkedIn dogs are pretty popular, so I decided to try posting funny, short videos about our dogs Sammy and Leia.
While my videos didn’t hit the level of truly viral, one hit 10,000 views in a couple days linked below:
I wondered if there was research available that provides insight into what causes videos to go viral? According to Harvard Business Review the following factors have an impact:
Social motivation
Emotional response
Super sharers move the needle
Timing counts
The Leia and Sammy video checked off a few of these boxes which likely drove the higher response. Even at 10,000 views it’s pretty amazing to think about the amount of time people spent watching the 15 second video…48 HOURS!
Now I need to figure out how to weave in elements that drive viral posts and videos that are aligned to sharing this learning blog as well as garnering interest in my book.
Sounds like I have some learning ahead of me!
