I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by veterans my whole life.
Both of my grandfathers, uncles, cousins, my aunt, neighbors, colleagues and friends served in one of our United Stated military branches.
While I never served, I am so thankful for what I’ve learned from them about service, discipline, teamwork, leadership, and meaningful work.
In addition my grandfather, Jack Anderson taught me how to golf ⛳️, fish 🎣, and along with my mom, a love of music that led to so many amazing experiences in my life.
While I never had to learn: “invasion tactics from barges (landing ship tanks “LSTs”) at Arzew” or followed a schedule like this, “We have the same training schedule every morning. Calisthenics, infantry drill, and class until noon.” (From A Soldier’s Song: The World War II Diary of Sergeant Jack Anderson), he and those who I’ve had the pleasure of knowing have inspired and taught me a great deal!
Thank you veterans! While teaching us isn’t the biggest reason we should thank our veterans, it’s one of many.
If you have an opportunity to cross paths with a veteran this week or any time, I encourage you to thank them and look for opportunities to learn from their wisdom, bravery and service!
