A few years ago I was back in my hometown when my parents were celebrating my dad’s 50th high school class reunion.
They had friends in town that graduated with my dad including Bill Harwood who was also in their wedding back in 1971. I had never met Bill before, at least that I could remember, but we struck up a conversation about our shared love of reading.
A lot of what I share on Learn In The Flow of life stems from books, podcasts and everyday learning tied to leadership and professional skills. Bill shared some ideas beyond my usual categories including nonfiction focused on present day and historical topics and even mentioned a murder mystery series by Harlan Koben about the fictional sports agent, Myron Bolitar.
He said that while the early books in the series have some dated references because it started in the 1990’s that the stories are still relevant and the author had so much success with the series that there are now 11 books in the series and even a Netflix show that's set to be released at some point soon.
This past weekend I had a lot of downtime in the great outdoors of my hometown so I set aside hours each day to read the 6th book in the series, “The Final Detail.” The book takes you on a journey of murder, mystery, twists and turns, sprinkled with comedy.
What did I learn? I learned the joy of reading beyond my regular reading focused on self-improvement and leadership to instead take a step into the fiction world, minus the sensory overloaded special effects and sound of a movie or tv show on our flat screen or handheld device or local movie theater.
Thank you Bill for sharing joy with this book series! What other fiction books do you want recommended?
