When It Snows Every Day

It seems like this winter it snows almost every day in Minnesota. It’s quite a shift from the last couple of winters, and the steady rhythm of snowfall has made me reflect on 2025 as a whole.
In many ways, the constant snow feels like the constant challenges this year brought. And judging by the news, the conversations we all have, and the posts we scroll through, we’re not the only ones who feel that way. With a recent health diagnosis in our family, we’ve asked ourselves more than once, “Is it ever going to stop snowing?”
The truth is: it probably won’t.
Not in Minnesota.
And not in life.
Snow will keep falling, and life will keep bringing challenges. The real question is what we do with it. Do we let it pile up until it feels overwhelming? Do we grab a shovel and start clearing a path? Or when it’s just too much do we reach for tools that make the work easier?
For me, that includes my trusty 1978 Ariens snowblower. (Yes, that one. Long-time readers know the legend. And yes, it’s still running.)
But tools aren’t the only thing that make the load lighter. Sometimes you need people. When we returned from Thanksgiving this year, we found our driveway completely cleared, done by our neighbor Nate, who knew we were out of town and wanted to make our return a little easier. Just yesterday he ran out of gas, and I finally got to return the favor.
Life works the same way.
Keep moving.
Use the tools that help.
Lean on others.
And when you can, be the one who shows up with the shovel or the gas can.
We’re not meant to get through the snow alone.
Learn in the flow of life.
Jason
