Can You Hear the Progress? – Update

Last year I wrote a post called “Can You Hear the Progress?” about how growth often goes unnoticed in the moment, especially when learning something hard. Sometimes the only way to truly see (or hear) progress is to look back.

Last week’s 8th grade band concert was one of those moments where the progress was impossible to miss.

Listening to this group now, you hear more than just correct notes. You hear confidence. You hear students listening to one another, shaping sound together, and playing as an ensemble. That kind of growth doesn’t come from a single rehearsal, it comes from years of practice, persistence, and showing up even when improvement feels slow.

If you’d like to hear it for yourself, here’s the concert from last week.

It was a powerful reminder that learning often happens quietly, gradually, and out of view, until one day, it shows up loud and clear. Keep practicing. Keep trusting the process. Eventually, you’ll hear the progress.
